UPMC Pinnacle acquires cancer center
UPMC Pinnacle has acquired an East Pennsboro Township cancer treatment center.
The acquisition of the Prostate Cancer Center gives the Harrisburg-based health system its fourth prostate cancer treatment facility in the region.
Formerly owned by an East Pennsboro Township-based independent practice, Urology of Central Pennsylvania, the facility treats prostate cancer patients using intensity-modulated radiation therapy and image-guided radiation therapy, two forms of treatment that pinpoint the origin of a cancer without harming surrounding healthy tissue.
“We share a common goal and have had a positive relationship with UPMC Pinnacle for many years,” said Frank D’Amico, president of Urology of Central Pennsylvania. “Joining the Prostate Cancer Center with UPMC Pinnacle allows the center to continue to provide the most clinically advanced prostate cancer care while creating opportunities to advance the field of prostate cancer treatment for our patients and community.”
UPMC Pinnacle employs over 2,900 physicians and 11,000 staff member at over 160 outpatient clinics and seven hospitals in 10 counties.
The system also offers prostate cancer treatment at the Ortenzio Cancer Center at PinnacleHealth in Hampden Township, Cumberland County; Carlisle Urology in South Middleton Township, Cumberland County; and Hanover Medical Group Urology in Penn Township, York County.
