UPMC Carlisle has received accreditation as a Comprehensive Center from the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program.
UPMC Carlisle said the achievement shows the determination to deliver safe, high- quality weight management care to central Pennsylvania residents.
The hospital joins UPMC Community Osteopathic as the second UPMC hospital in the region equipped for bariatric surgeries, UPMC in Central Pa. said. UPMC Community Osteopathic renewed its accreditation in 2023, marking 16 years as a Comprehensive Center.
UPMC’s Comprehensive Center’s commitment to quality care begins with trained staff and leadership of a bariatric surgeon. UPMC Carlisle said the Comprehensive Centers are tasked with continuous review of surgical data as they continue improving the structure and outcomes expertise necessary to provide safe, effective, and high-quality care to all metabolic and bariatric patients. The Comprehensive Centers follow rigorous and defined standards of care that contribute to the program’s success and safety.
“This accreditation for UPMC Carlisle shows the determination of our staff to provide the highest quality in metabolic and bariatric care,” Dr. Joshua Etzel, general and bariatric surgeon at UPMC Carlisle said. “Our Comprehensive Centers at UPMC Carlisle and UPMC Community Osteopathic, as well as our expansive regional offices of medical/surgical weight loss offices, make personalized care for each patient accessible across the region.”
UPMC Central PA Weight Management Services offers bariatric surgical options and non-surgical weight loss resources and tools. UPMC said it has reorganized offices to meet the goal of providing patient care for each patient to achieve their weight loss target in each community it serves.
