Orthopedic Institute of PA to provide care at two Penn State Health hospitals
The Camp Hill-based Orthopedic Institute of Pennsylvania (OIP) will provide orthopedic care at two Penn State Health hospitals as part of a new collaborative agreement.
Penn State Health recently announced that the institute will oversee general orthopedic care at Holy Spirit Medical Center and at the Hershey-based system’s Hampden Medical Center when it opens this fall.
The institute will also handle orthopedic trauma cases at Holy Spirit Medical Center. Holy Spirit, a level II trauma center, became part of Penn State Health on Nov. 1, 2020.
“This collaboration is a natural fit – OIP and Penn State Health have a shared mission of being a trusted choice for communities in the area,” said Dr. Brett Himmelwright, medical director of general orthopedic care at Holy Spirit. “We look forward to providing the thoughtful, personalized care that OIP patients have come to know at Penn State Health facilities.”
Penn State Health’s incoming Hampden Medical Center in Hampden Township, Cumberland County will open with OIP’s services. Penn State Health said that it has worked together with OIP’s providers in policy development and in choosing equipment for the new facility.
OIP is a private, independent practice with 50 years of experience providing orthopedic care in Cumberland County. Dr. Safa Farzin, senior vice president for Penn State Health Medical Group, said that the system is thrilled to work with an organization with such a background.
“OIP and Penn State Health share the same dedication to high-quality patient care,” said Farzin. “This collaboration is a win for Penn State Health, and for patients.”
