Armed with a tourism grant from Dauphin County Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED), Hummelstown has launched a tourism campaign to support one of its top industries.
Theresa Eberly, Hummelstown Borough manager, said the borough is using the $20,000 grant to create a video that includes Dauphin County commissioners promoting local attractions that generate close to $2.4 billion annually and support nearly 28,000 jobs, Eberly said.
“Hummelstown is thankful for the support and assistance from Dauphin County and many others in showcasing our beautiful town and all it has to offer. We have fun year-round events and great businesses, fabulous restaurants, a trendy brewery, and shops that our residents and visitors enjoy,” said Mayor David Roeting. “Many tourists come to the region to visit Harrisburg or Hershey and stop by Hummelstown while vacationing because it’s an easy walk around town and offers that small-town feel.”
The grant comes from a portion of the hotel tax revenue generated by a five percent room occupancy tax in Dauphin County, according to Dauphin County DCED.
“Hummelstown is a great example of a charming small town in Dauphin County focused on driving its own economy, said Dauphin County Commissioners Chairman Mike Pries. “They are working hard to promote themselves and attract both visitors and new residents alike, while investing in family fun and weekend events to entertain all ages.”
Borough Council Member Dee VanGavree said, “Hummelstown is truly a hidden gem nestled right between our State Capitol building and Hershey. We offer cozy restaurants and taverns as well as unique shopping throughout town. Plus, we encourage everyone to visit us on a 2nd Friday to Eat, Shop and Stroll, all year long. This campaign is a perfect example of the county’s tourism dollars at work and showcases the heart of our delightful town.”
