AT&T has turned on new sites in Lebanon County, giving users at the base, first responders, area residents, businesses and visitors a boost in their wireless connectivity.
The new sites are at Fort Indiantown Gap, Bordnersville, and Fredericksburg. According to a release, the new site in Bordnersville improves coverage and capacity near Fort Indiantown Gap and along Interstate 81, and the Fredericksburg site improves coverage and capacity in Fredericksburg and along Interstate 78.
The sites are important for businesses in the area, including local farms, small businesses and manufacturers, and with travelers along Interstates 78 and 81.
“At the Chamber, we work to help boost our local economy and help our members compete and win in the marketplace,” said Karen Groh, president and CEO, Lebanon Valley Chamber of Commerce. “AT&T‘s investment in these new sites gives another tool to help make Lebanon County a great place to start, grow and sustain a business.”
The Pennsylvania Army National Guard, which is headquartered at Fort Indiantown Gap, was among the first agencies in Pennsylvania to sign on to FirstNet, built with AT&T.
“Already, several of our end users here at Fort Indiantown Gap have reached out to me and my team on their notice in the changes in overall service, which is a direct reflection of the work the AT&T and the FirstNet team have made,” Colonel Erik V. Smith, Deputy Chief of Staff for Information Management, Pennsylvania Army National Guard Joint Force Headquarters, said in a statement.
These new sites are also part of AT&T and the First Responder Network Authority’s (FirstNet Authority) 10-year, $8-plus billion investment commitment into the FirstNet network, which includes launching 1,000 new cell sites to further expand the reach of public safety’s dedicated Band 14 spectrum across the country by the end of 2025.
“With FirstNet, we make public safety’s mission the priority,” said David Kerr, president, AT&T Pennsylvania. “When agencies on FirstNet respond to incidents – from large events to weather emergencies to man-made disasters and more – we’re there to help coordinate their needs and deliver for the men and women our communities count on the most.
“We appreciate the collaboration with Gov. Shapiro’s office and the team at the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs to get this new site on the air to better connect those who protect and support our commonwealth,” said Kerr.
