York economy expects boost from D-III baseball championships

‘s can expect a boost when the Division III Championships are hosted by in 2027 and 2028. 

York College and won a bid to host the championships at . York County was among the 240 host site selections announced by the . According to a release, the six-day championship is expected to bring over 25,000 visitors and an estimated economic impact of $1 million. 

“Being selected to host the NCAA is a tremendous honor for our community,” , president of Explore York, said in a statement. “This event not only highlights our dedication to sports tourism, but also brings significant economic and social benefits.” 

Typically held in June, the championships had been hosted for 18 straight years in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, at Veterans Memorial Stadium. 

The NCAA sports committees selected host sites based on criteria that included the ability “to create an outstanding experience for student-athletes, along with adherence to NCAA sport-specific bid specifications,” per a release. Forty states plus the District of Columbia were selected to host at least one NCAA championship event, with Florida gaining the most with 22. and Texas are tied for second with 20. 

“From supporting our local businesses, hotels, and restaurants, this event will create growth opportunities and showcase York County to visitors from across the country,” said Wagner. “I’m proud of our team and the effort our community put into securing this bid. I’m excited to see the lasting impact this event will have on our region.”
