York’s Downtown Inc to have new leader by mid-September

Downtown Inc, which has been without an executive director since Sonia Huntzinger left in March, expects to name a full-time replacement within a few weeks, its board chairwoman said Tuesday.

Downtown Inc, just like the countywide York County Economic Alliance – which named state Rep. Kevin Schreiber earlier this month as its new leader – conducted a national search for a new director.

“We started our search this summer, and we expect to have the right person selected by mid-September,” said Krista Darr, the board chairwoman.

Darr, who declined to say how many applications or finalists there have been for the post, credited Downtown Inc’s staff members for keeping the organization going strong over the last five-plus months.

“We certainly appreciate the staff for continuing to push the mission of our organization forward,” she said.

Acting executive director Timothy Miller has led Downtown Inc, a York economic and cultural improvement organization, since Huntzinger.

Downtown Inc’s activities include York’s monthly “First Friday” event and the current York City Boutique Week, which aims to “shine a spotlight on our small retailers” while showcasing upcoming fall fashions, Meagan Feeser, Downtown Inc’s director of marketing, said Tuesday.

The fifth annual Boutique Week runs Tuesday through Saturday, and includes a luncheon and happy hour (both sold out) and a fashion show. Downtown Inc organizes the event on behalf of York merchants, and 20 shops and eateries are taking part.
