York Water adds to growing wastewater business

The purchase was disclosed on Dec. 30 in a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

The filing did not say what York Water paid for the West York system, but notes that it adds 1,700 customers, tripling the number of wastewater customers served by York Water. Service is expected to begin in the first quarter of 2017.

York Water has been in the wastewater business since 2012 when it bought two small systems in York County.

In its filing, York Water also noted that it had entered into a consent order and agreement with the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection on a plan to accelerate replacement of any lead pipes in the company’s water system.

The company is working to replace all lead lines within four years at no charge to customers, as well as offering services designed to help customers until lead pipes are replaced. Those services include free water testing and a 200-gallon flushing credit.
