York County-based hotel developer Springwood Hospitality was recognized as a high-performing developer as part of the 2019 Hilton Legacy Awards.

Springwood announced this week that the McLean, Virginia-based hotel chain named the developer its 2019 Focused Service Brands Developer of the Year award for North America.

The developer received the honor thanks to its performance on the Tru by Hilton Hershey Chocolate Ave., Springwood wrote in a press release.

The 112-room Tru hotel opened in June of last year at 204 Hillcrest Road in Hershey. Early in the development of the hotel, Springwood met with community groups who helped the developer give the hotel more of a “Hershey flavor” by incorporating a chocolate color palette to the building’s exterior.

The Wilbur Lititz, a Hilton Tapestry Collection Hotel, which Springwood opened and manages, was also honored in the string of awards.

Oak Tree Development of Lancaster, the developer for the Lititz hotel, received the 2019 Tapestry by Hilton New Build award for the opening, management, concept, design and development execution of the hotel.

In 2019, Springwood opened three Hilton hotels and began construction on four more, all of which opened this year.

“Our relationship with Hilton is mutually beneficial, and their brands have been consistently successful for us,” said David Hogg, Springwood CEO. “Hilton’s development team understands that they succeed when we succeed.”

Springwood and its affiliates have developed 31 projects worth more than $300 million in the midstate, West Virginia and Maryland.

Correction: A previous version of the article said that Springwood was the recipient of the 2019 Tapestry by Hilton New Build award.
