York County home sales down 3 percent in Q1

After getting out to a strong start this year, home sales in York County fell 20 percent in March, according to the Realtors Association of York and Adams Counties.

There were 285 homes sold in March involving agents. In the first quarter, there were 808 homes sold compared with 834 through the first three months of 2013. That is a 3 percent decline.
RAYAC cited the harsh winter weather in February, which delayed many settlements in March, as a major reason for the decline.
“We believe that home sales should trend up modestly over the course of the year,” said Paula Musselman, RAYAC’s president.
Sales were strongest in the Dallastown Area and Northeastern school districts in March. Those districts saw 27 and 26 home sales, respectively.
York County home sales grew by 14 percent in 2013, finishing the year with 4,399.
