York County CPA firm buys smaller rival

An established CPA firm in York County has announced plans to buy another accounting firm, effective Jan. 1.

Stambaugh Ness said today it will acquire Bergdoll & Co. LLP, a certified public accounting firm based in York, Stambaugh Ness officials announced Monday.

The Bergdoll firm’s eight employees will be joining Stambaugh Ness as part of the acquisition, Stambaugh Ness officials said Monday.

The sale price was not disclosed.

Stambaugh Ness, founded in 1918, has offices in the York area, in Springettsbury Township, and in Hanover Borough. It is a business and technology advisory firm with a focus on architecture, engineering, construction, manufacturing, nonprofits and professional services, it said.

James Bergdoll, managing partner of Bergdoll & Co., and fellow  principal Stephen Lighty will join Stambaugh Ness as principals, Stambaugh Ness officials said Monday.

Stambaugh Ness was founded in 1918.

By acquiring Bergdoll & Co., “we are able to enhance and broaden the client experience,” Stambaugh Ness President and CEO Steven Hake said in a news release.
