York County businesses awarded Trail Towns grants

Paula Wolf//April 21, 2022

The York County Economic Alliance announced Tuesday that 12 local businesses and nonprofits received 2022 York County Trail Towns Bloom grants.

The program was launched by the alliance in June 2020 to support five communities adjacent to the York County Heritage Rail Trail: the City of York, Seven Valleys, Glen Rock, Railroad and New Freedom. It has since expanded to Hanover and Wrightsville.

It provides a platform for focused economic development by increasing trail tourism and supporting businesses and organizations that provide services and amenities to the nearly 500,000 trail users who pass through each year. Through the Bloom Business Empowerment Center, over $24,000 was awarded. The average grant was $2,082; 66% of the businesses and nonprofits chosen are women-owned or led, 17% are Black, Indigenous and people of color-owned or led, and 8% are military veteran-owned or led.
