Having recently moved into a new home in downtown York, insurance agency Insurance Services United is expanding its operations with the purchase of another firm.
Insurance Services United, which is rebranding itself as ISU, Thursday said the purchase of York County’s Runkle’s Insurance is adding two employees.
The move comes only a few weeks after ISU’s announcement that it had moved into a new office, a three-story building at 123 E. Market St. that had been the long-time home of the Bailey Travel firm.
“One of the reasons we opened our new office was to allow our company the opportunity to grow as a local business,” ISU principal Judd Lando said. “Today’s announcement is the first step toward reaching that goal.”
Runkle’s Notary and Insurance is a four-generation family business with offices in three York County communities, York, Red Lion and Hanover.
The purchase only includes the insurance portion of the business. Runkle’s Notary will continue to provide notary and PennDOT tag and title services at all three of its office locations, officials said.
Terms of the purchase were not disclosed.
Two of Runkle’s Insurance staff members will begin working at ISU as a part of the purchase, giving ISU 12 employees.
“There will be no interruption of insurance services, and our customers will find some familiar insurance experts now available at ISU,” said Mark Johnson, president of Runkle’s Notary and Insurance.
And Runkle’s “will have the benefit of returning to our roots and focusing on our notary service,” Johnson said.
Runkle’s Notary and Insurance has been a family-owned company since 1949.
