World Grills, offering Thai cuisine, opened recently at 29 E. King St. in York’s Royal Square district, across the street from York City Hall.
Owners Aiyarath Boontanomwan and Tawipong Pongsang offer a wide range of rice- and noodle-based dishes, appetizers ranging from “Thai fried chicken” wings to pumpkin empanadas, and drinks including virgin mojitos and Thai iced coffee.
World Grills is open for lunch and dinner weekdays and dinner on weekends.
“It’s very exciting to have such a representation of all types of ethnicities in our restaurant scene in downtown York,” said Natalie Williams, small business liaison for York City economic and improvement organization Downtown Inc.
“We are very happy that World Grills is open to add to that growing list,” she added.
The restaurant fills a vacant storefront that had been empty for some time, Williams said.
World Grills owners Boontanomwan and Pongsang moved to the U.S. four years ago, at first struggling to find Thai food.
They examined several locations for a possible restaurant , including Washington D.C. and northern Virginia, before deciding on downtown York, a Downtown Inc news release said.
