Work to begin on phase II of Molly Pitcher project in Carlisle

The Cumberland County Housing and Redevelopment Authorities plan to start construction in November on phase II of the Molly Pitcher renovation project in Carlisle.

Phase II comes seven years after the historic downtown building opened as a senior apartment facility. At the time, the fourth and fifth floors were left untouched, while $3.3 million was spent converting the lower floors into nine furnished apartments for low-income seniors.

The new construction — which is expected to be completed in August 2015 — will convert the upper floors into eight apartments. Six will be one-bedroom units, while the remaining two will have two bedrooms.

Tuckey Restoration is the general contractor on the job, and did the phase one work as well. A ground-floor commercial space was refurbished in the 2007 project and is vacant. Officials hope to fill the space soon, said Rebecca Yearick, downtown program services manager for the Cumberland County Housing and Redevelopment Authorities.
