The Governor’s Budget Office is part of the state Office of the Budget and is responsible for overseeing the preparation and implementation of the state budget.
Jeff Sheridan, a spokesman for Gov. Tom Wolf, confirmed the appointment.
“Sharon’s appointment is testimony to her deep knowledge of budget and taxes, and her unmatched work ethic and sense of responsibility,” KRC Executive Director Stephen Herzenberg said in a statement.
Ward had been with the liberal-leaning Harrisburg research organization since 2005.
In the interim, Michael Wood, the center’s research director, will serve as primary spokesman, Herzenberg said.
KRC staff will provide additional support until a new director is named. The center has contracted on an interim basis with Jan Jarrett, former executive director of PennFuture.
Wolf’s first budget address is slated for March 3.
