WITF celebrates ‘Sesame Street 50 Years and Counting’ with community event Saturday

Leslie Penkunas//September 24, 2019

Families can head “to where the air is sweet” this Saturday, Sept. 28 from 9 a..m. to 2 p.m. at the WITF Public Media Center, 4801 Lindle Road in Harrisburg. Children and families will engage with Sesame Street-themed activities, designed with the show’s mission in mind: to help children grow smarter, stronger and kinder. Kids can make their own rubber ducky, count to 50, make their own letter of the day, and shop for healthy foods in “Hooper’s Store.” Families may pre-register at witf.org/events for a timed pass to take a picture with Walkaround Super Grover 2.0.

To make the day extra-special, all children and parents are welcome to connect to the Harrisburg Transfer Center and ride free via Route 20 to the WITF Public Media Center. All buses in the CAT service system connect to the downtown Transfer Center. Families wishing to attend from any stop in Cumberland and Dauphin counties should schedule a trip to the Transfer Center to connect with Route 20, then ride free from downtown to WITF and back again. The Route 20 buses that will stop at WITF will start at Market Street Transfer Center at 8:15 a.m. and will run every 35 minutes. The last pickup from WITF is scheduled for 2:40 p.m.

There will also be a regular Route 20 bus, following its normal schedule from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m., that does not stop at WITF. Riders are encouraged to ask their driver if that bus will take them to Sesame Street 50 Years and Counting. All passengers on Route 20, no matter their destination, will ride for free.

Families can register for the event, and see the Route 20 timetable, at witf.org/events
