WHTM adds 7 p.m. news broadcast

WHTM abc27 is expanding its news coverage to accommodate longer workdays.

WHTM abc27 is expanding its news coverage to accommodate longer workdays. The station stopped airing “Friends” reruns yesterday evening, filling the extra half-hour with news at 7 p.m. and moving “The Insider” from its 7 p.m. slot to 7:30 p.m. Dennis Owens and Valerie Pritchett host the new evening news show. The station also plans to start its morning news a half-hour earlier, at 5 a.m., in mid-October.

“We feel that the future of TV news is really a vital and strong one and we want to be there when our viewers want us to be there, not when we decide to be there,” said Keith Blaisdell, news director at WHTM. The station has recently hired four people to help with the expansion.
