KidsPlace, located in the Whitaker Center’s Harsco Science Center, will be re-imagined to include newly designed and refurbished exhibits for children ages 0-5 years old. During this renovation project, the Harsco Science Center will be closed from October 7 through November 4, 2019. The Sunoco Performance Theatre, Select Medical Digital Cinema, the Wonders Store and the Box Office will continue regular operating hours during this time.
The newly renovated KidsPlace – The Gary and Sylvie St. Hilaire Gallery is named in honor of the president and CEO of Capital Blue Cross and his wife.
The first phase of the renovated space will include a gated “Baby Garden” area, a storybook tree, a fishin’ hole and a picnic area. Phase I is scheduled to open on November 5, 2019. The second phase of the project will include a revamped ambulance and oversized Operation game scheduled to open in the spring 2020. The new exhibits are being designed and built by Carnegie Science Center in Pittsburgh. The Center develops and constructs hundreds of exhibit pieces for themselves and other sites across the country, customizing interactive exhibits to the unique needs of each space.
Due to construction, no admission will be granted to the Harsco Science Center from October 7 -November 4, 2019. Now through October 6, Whitaker Center is offering admission at a reduced rate – $5 a person or free with purchase of a documentary ticket. In addition to the reduced rate, any memberships purchased between November 2018 and October 13, 2019, will automatically receive an extra month of membership.
