York Township-based WellSpan Health this morning showed off
the high-tech features of its planned rehabilitation and orthopedic specialty
hospital, construction of which is scheduled to begin this spring.
The 73-bed, four-operating-room WellSpan Surgery and Rehabilitation Center will take pressure off York Hospital,
as well as better provide for the needs of an aging population, according to
WellSpan.
Among the features planned for the hospital is “Smart Room
Technology” from Virginia-based Cerner Corp. That includes electronic messaging
boards to facilitate communication between medical personnel and patients’
families, devices that upload results directly into the hospital’s electronic
medical records and a system by which patients can adjust temperature and
lighting.
The operating rooms will be roughly one-third bigger than
typical ORs and have better ventilation systems and advanced equipment such as
mobile monitors to improve work flow, officials said.
The facility will be on WellSpan’s Apple Hill Health Campus and is expected to be completed by the end of 2011.
WellSpan next month also plans to open an outpatient
rehabilitation facility in the Queensgate
Shopping Center in York Township,
officials said.
