“We’re competing with many other areas to hire doctors, and offering new facilities will give us an advantage,” Melissa Dubrow, vice president and chief operating officer of Waynesboro Hospital, said in a news release.
The release also said details are being finalized, but the building will be designed with patients in mind.
The new facility will be next to Waynesboro Hospital – which is at 501 E. Main St. — across from the emergency department entrance on Enterprise Avenue. Early plans call for a three-story building that will house physician practices, and a walk-in care center may also be included.
Total cost for the building, including construction, furniture, equipment and landscaping, is estimated at $16 million. Pyramid Construction Services Inc. will oversee the project, and Delaware County-based GS Architects is handling its design.
The hospital plans to break ground in September, and the facility is scheduled to open in early 2015.
The nonprofit hospital is an affiliate of Chambersburg-based Summit Health.
