Bowhead Logistics Management LLC will lay off 60 employees next month at its Letterkenny Army Depot facility in Chambersburg, the company informed the state Department of Labor & Industry.
The layoffs are not expected to be permanent, according to the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act filing.
The WARN notice said Bowhead was directed by the Army to conduct the layoffs at 1350 Superior Ave., Building 57, in Letterkenny because of “unplanned conclusions of maintenance programs and projected reductions in maintenance work” on a defense contract.
The layoffs will happen in three phases: 22 employees on Jan. 9, 2023; 18 employees on Jan. 12, 2023; and 20 employees on Jan. 20, 2023.
Bowhead’s filing said the workers are represented by District Lodge No. 1 of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, AFL-CIO. The Machinists Union could not be reached for comment.
UIC Government Services LLC and its Bowhead family of companies, including Bowhead Logistics Management LLC, are part of Ukpeagvik Iñupiat Corp., an Alaska Native corporation.
