U.S. Ambassador to Germany, Dr. Amy Gutmann was in York to discuss German investment in the United States.
Gutmann was in York to tour Voith Hydro’s manufacturing facility to discuss Voith’s commitment to infrastructure investment prior to her participation in SelectUSA Investment Summit in Washington, D.C. May 1 through 4.
Voith Hydro said she received a behind-the-scenes tour of Voith Hydro’s state-of-the-art facility and learned about the company’s commitment to the U.S. market.
Members of Voith Hydro’s management team also discussed the company’s commitment to infrastructure investment, made in America products, and apprenticeship program that trains the skilled crafts persons who build the hydroelectric turbines that bring clean energy to homes across the U.S.
Gutmann is familiar with Pennsylvania as she served as president of the University of Pennsylvania for 18 years prior to being confirmed by the Senate in February 2022.
As ambassador, one of her priorities is encouraging German investment in the U.S. and a strong bilateral economic relationship between the two allies, according to Voith Hydro, which has been in York for more than 145 years.
In total across its three group divisions, Voith Hydro, Voith Paper and Voith Turbo has more than 2,100 employees in the U.S. working in 40 states.
“It was an honor to welcome Ambassador Gutmann to our North American headquarters in York,” said John Seifarth, senior vice president and COO, Voith Hydro North America. “The ambassador has a strong appreciation for the shared values and economic ties between the U.S. and Germany. We are proud of our Pennsylvania roots that date back to the 1870s. Voith is a model for how the private sector in our two countries can work together to build sustainable energy while growing our economies.”
