Truck runs over, kills man at Cumberland County Amazon warehouse

A Perry County man died Tuesday after a truck ran over him at Amazon’s distribution center in South Middleton Township, Cumberland County.

Devan Michael Shoemaker, 28, was helping to hook the truck to a trailer when the truck driver accidentally ran over him, Cumberland County Coroner Charles Hall said Wednesday.

Shoemaker was pronounced dead at the scene Tuesday at 5:15 p.m.

The fatal accident was the second one to take place at the South Middleton Township warehouse. A woman also died there in 2014 after a motorized pallet jack she was operating crashed into shelving.

“The safety of our employees is incredibly important to us,” Amazon said in a statement Thursday. “Our thoughts are with Devan’s family and friends during this difficult time.”
