Gannett Fleming Inc. is continuing its flurry of acquisitions in the last year with the recent purchase of a New York-based road tolling company.

Traffic Technologies Inc. (TTI), a consultant business with experience in various aspects of the tolling industry, was acquired at the end of September by the Cumberland County-based engineering firm. The deal marked the fifth acquisition for Gannett Fleming in the last 13 months and its first in the tolling industry.

“Our industry is ever-changing, and this acquisition positions us for the evolution in urban congestion tolling, road user charging and connected and automated vehicles,” said Bob Scaer, Gannett Fleming chairman and CEO.

TTI has been in business for more than 20 years, company officials said, operating out of its offices in New Windsor, N.Y. where it provides tolling advisory services through planning, design and project management. It serves more than 25 clients across the U.S., including the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, the North Carolina Department of Transportation, the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority and the Golden Gate Bridge Highway and Transportation District.

Stan Weiss, founder of TTI, will remain with the company, serving as a vice president with Gannett Fleming. Its offices are also remaining in New York.

“Tolling and other electronic payment systems are a growing market and this union will strengthen our presence with existing and new clients,” Weiss said.

The purchase of TTI marks the fifth acquisition in the last 14 months by the international company with its headquarters in East Pennsboro Township.

In April, Gannett Fleming acquired Sage Engineers, a geotechnical engineering firm based in California. It also purchased Chicago-based transportation firm Bowman, Barrett & Associates Inc. in December, Virginia-based geographic information systems consulting firm WorldView Solutions last October and California-based water and wastewater engineering firm KEH & Associates Inc. last August.

Gannett Fleming has approximately 2,500 employees and hopes to grow to 4,000 employees by 2025. It finished 2018 with $481 million in revenue, up from $410 million in 2017, according to Business Journal records.
