YRC Freight, a division of Kansas-based trucking company YRC Worldwide Inc., this week said it has received approval from the Teamsters union that represents its employees to move forward with an “optimization plan” that will result in the closure of some facilities around the country.
YRC submitted the network optimization plan to union leaders in March for review. The company is aiming to reduce redundancy in its logistics network by closing select handling and relay locations.
The company and union were expected this month to form a committee to develop specific plans for the closures that could be instituted in May.
YRC has a large warehouse in Middlesex Township, Cumberland County, and its regional trucking subsidiary New Penn Motor Express Inc. is based in Lebanon.
YRC trades its stock on the Nasdaq under the ticker symbol YRCW.
