Because of reduced demand for long-run print catalogs and magazines, LSC Communications announced this week that it’s closing the two R.R. Donnelley plants in Lancaster, idling an estimated 656 employees.

The U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) issued a new proposal recently on whether workers under the 1938 Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) should be classified as employees or independent contractors. 

The United Steelworkers announced Wednesday that employees have voted overwhelmingly to ratify a four-year contract covering about 12,000 members at 13 Cleveland-Cliffs Inc. Steel locations, including its facility in Steelton.

It can be tempting for managers to feel that empty positions must be filled as quickly as possible to maintain normal operations. But as the Eisenhower Principle reminds us, we must not allow what’s urgent to overtake what’s important. 

As the workforce crisis persists, details have started to emerge that confirm some patterns, including that younger cohorts appear to dominate the job-hopping trend.  

A recent survey of 18 Pennsylvania-based nursing homes, assisted living communities and personal care homes showed that respondents lost 18% of their workforce as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
