One of Lebanon County’s major employers has taken a significant step toward renewable energy with the installation of an 800-kilowatt commercial solar array.

DHL Supply Chain is starting work on a nearly 3 million-square-foot warehouse project in Lebanon County’s South Annville Township.

To protect workers and reduce injuries and illnesses in the warehousing, storage and distribution industries, the U.S. Dept. of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has launched the Regional Emphasis Program for Warehousing Operations in Pennsylvania, Delaware, Washington D.C. and West Virginia. 

Consumer demand is driving the warehouse boom in Central Pennsylvania and Lehigh Valley with ecommerce companies leasing more than half of the space.

According to a study of the top 11 regions in the country by Transwestern Development Company, there has been a 25% increase in growth in manufacturing and warehouse facilities in Southcentral Pennsylvania and Lehigh Valley since the global financial crises of 2007-2009.

A new collaboration among academic, state and workforce development organizations will provide training for emerging jobs in agribusiness, transportation and warehousing. 

The United States had a record year for large warehouses in 2021 and the I-78/I-81 corridor, running through the Lehigh Valley, Central Pennsylvania and Northeastern Pennsylvania ranked second in the country for these large transactions. 

National logistics real estate firm, Dermody Properties, announced its intentions to build a 342,710-square-foot warehouse at the site of Glen-Gery's brick manufacturing plant in York. 

Herhey-based Jacobson Warehouse Company plans to lay off 77 of its 228 employees early next year. 

The overwhelming demand for light industrial and warehousing space along the I-78/I-81 corridor should last through the end of the year and likely beyond, said Vince Ranalli, executive vice president for CBRE.
