A new rental complex in Marietta, Lancaster County is expected to feature 172 apartments, 12 three-story townhomes and 48 garages for lease when the project is finished in fall 2021.
The first tenants of the new Riverside Foundry rental complex in Marietta, Lancaster County, are set to begin moving in at the end of the month.
The complex, built from the former York Barbell foundry site in Marietta and overlooking the Susquehanna River, is a joint effort between Hanover-based Burkentine Builders Inc. and York-based Inch & Co. Construction.
The companies acquired the land in 2018 and began leveling the former foundry’s 10 buildings to make room for the new complex in 2019.
“It’s been a difficult road,” said Jeffrey Inch, construction president at Inch & Co. “The Township and bureau have been great but there were tons of old buildings that needed to be removed while trying to work with the grades. Trying to get everything inside of the space and not have it feel super crowded was important.”
Apartments will have one to three bedrooms, one to two baths, laundry in each apartment, a club house with a workout facility and a large common area available to renters.
Inch said the size of the complex is an average project for Burkentine Builders, but the amenities surrounding the almost 11 acres, including a nearby rail trail and access to the river, make it unique.
The first of six apartment buildings is planned to open on July 27th with the second ready for clients by mid-August.
The first building has 30 units and is nearly full with incoming tenants. Michael Burkentine, vice president of sales and business development at Burkentine, said that the companies have been seeing interest from both young families and empty nesters interested in the feel of Marietta and the access to the area’s outdoor offerings.
“The thing that Riverside Foundry brings to the community is the ease of living,” Burkentine said. “People are moving out of the cities, and in my opinion, they want to be surrounded by places like Marietta where you can go outside, hop on the beautiful trail along the river and ride your bike with your family.”
