Crayola launches a new shade of blue and you can help name it!

Crayola announced that it is introducing a new blue crayon color inspired by the discovery of a “new to the world” blue pigment. YInMn Blue. The pigment was discovered in 2009 by chemist Mas Subramanian and his team at Oregon State University, is the inspiration behind Crayola’s newest crayon color.

Crayola is also inviting North America to help name the new blue, which will replace the recently retired Dandelion color across its crayon portfolio.

The name submission contest kicks off today at Crayola.com/NewColor and runs through June 2, 2017.

Entrants who submit name ideas will be entered for a chance to win one of four weekly prizes.

“Fans in North America have told us through previous polls and surveys that blue is their favorite color. Now, not only will they have a new blue color to fall in love with, but also the opportunity to be a part of Crayola history by naming it,” said Melanie Boulden, Senior Vice President, U.S. and Global Marketing at Crayola. “Starting today we invite fans to unleash the power of their creativity and submit name ideas for the new Crayola blue crayon.”

On July 1, 2017, Crayola will release the top five blue crayon color names at Crayola.com/NewColor. Consumers will then be able to vote on their favorite color and view the real-time, daily voting results. To add to the excitement, voters will be entered for a chance to win one of six grand prizes of an all-expense paid trip for four to the Orlando Crayola Experience and a daily prize of the award-winning Crayola Air Marker Sprayer.

Crayola will unveil the new fan-selected blue crayon color name and the six grand prize winners in early September 2017.  The new blue crayon will begin appearing in Crayola products in late 2017 through early 2018.

Stars on Ice Contest – Four-pack ticket giveaway!

Hershey Gardens welcomes spring with kids’ seed planting and a butterfly wing jewelry-making class for adults

Spring’s arrival brings a host of new activities to Hershey Gardens, in addition to a sea of colorful tulips. A complete list of April and May events is detailed below:

Make a Butterfly Wing Pendant – Adult Education Class – NEW!
Class participants will create a pendant necklace using a portion of an “aged out” butterfly wing. Attendees will also accompany Dan Babbitt, associate director, on a personalized tour of the Butterfly Atrium in the Milton & Catherine Hershey Conservatory. All supplies are provided. Touch a Bug Insect Cart
Visit Hershey Gardens on weekends and explore the fascinating world of insects. Kids will meet some amazing giant bugs, learn where they come from and what makes them unique. At the end of their visit, kids will receive official certification as a Hershey Gardens “Bugologist.” A variety of bugs will be displayed throughout the year, including blue death feigning beetles, tobacco hornworms and eastern lubber grasshoppers. Pennsylvania Dental Association sponsors poster contest for third-grade students

Third-graders across Pennsylvania will combine oral health education and creativity this February during the Pennsylvania Dental Association’s annual poster contest in celebration of National Children’s Dental Health Month (NCDHM). This year’s theme will be “Choose Tap Water for a Sparkling Smile” and features The American Dental Association’s cartoon characters, the Smileys and the McGrinns, making good choices when it comes to caring for their teeth.

Those who participate in PDA’s poster contest will have a chance at winning several different prizes. Three statewide winners will be selected from the entries.

The first-place winner will be awarded $500. In addition, the first-place winner’s school and teacher will each receive a $250 prize. The grand prize will be awarded to the first-place winner at a school function. The second place winner will receive $250, while the third-place winner will receive $100.

PDA’s NCDHM lesson plan kits are designed for third-grade teachers in Pennsylvania public, private and charter schools, and contain a lesson plan featuring information on dental health topics, fun classroom activities and instructions for the PDA-sponsored poster contest. The NCDHM lesson plan kits are distributed electronically. Please contact Michelle Berrones at [email protected] to receive these materials and to request complimentary NCDHM posters for your participating classroom.

All entries for the poster contest must be submitted by Monday, March 13. Please select only one classroom winner and submit the winning entry to: Pennsylvania Dental Association, Attn: NCDHM Poster Contest, 3501 N. Front Street, Harrisburg, PA 17110. PDA will announce the top three winners in April.
