Survey: Construction companies very optimistic about 2017

Most commercial construction firms in Pennsylvania are optimistic about the New Year and what it will mean for their business, according to a new survey.

The Keystone Contractors Association, a Cumberland County-based trade group, polled CEOs at construction firms across the commonwealth, including firms not in the association, and found that 71 percent believe this year will be better than last year for business.

Among companies with an optimistic outlook, 65 percent expect modest growth in 2017, while 6 percent said they will expect drastic growth.

Another 9 percent of construction companies in Pennsylvania expect a drop in business this year, while 20 percent said they will probably maintain the same level of business.

Nearly half of construction companies expect to increase their workforce in the field, while 38 percent said they intend to grow professional office staff.

And 19 percent said they will likely maintain the same level of employment from last year.

KCA is known primarily for working with contractors on labor relations and safety consulting services. Harrisburg-based Alexander Building Construction Co. is among its local members.
