The Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry launched a new hiring portal to help life-sustaining companies promote job openings.

Department of Labor and Industry officials said the portal will connect life-sustaining businesses and employees that have been mutually impacted by the COVID-19 recession.

Companies are eligible to list jobs they’re hiring for if they have more than 10 openings available and they pass the state’s qualifications as a life-sustaining business. Businesses are required to first fill out an online form.

“Many life-sustaining businesses across Pennsylvania are hiring and this new portal will help connect them with people looking for a job,” said Secretary of Labor and Industry Jerry Oleksiak at a Monday virtual press conference.

“A top priority of [the Department of Labor and Industry] is to provide businesses with access to the workforce they need to maintain their life-sustaining operations and help our workers find jobs, especially during this unprecedented and challenging time,” Oleksiak said.

The portal currently features 35 businesses, as of Monday afternoon, and most commonly features job requests for health care professionals. Other companies posting job openings range in industry from grocery stores to online retail with Amazon.
