A Harrisburg developer has secured a $1 million state grant to help build a new office tower in downtown Harrisburg.
The Wolf administration today announced that Second Street Associates LLC was approved for a grant under the state’s Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program, or RACP, to renovate an existing six-story office building at 17 S. Second St. and build a new six-story tower on a vacant lot at 21 S. Second St. The two buildings will be connected to form a single corporate office tower.
The Capital Region Economic Development Corp. applied for the RACP grant on behalf of Harristown.
Second Street Associates is an affiliate of Harristown Enterprises Inc., owner of the mixed-use Strawberry Square complex. Last year, Harristown bought the long-vacant Coronet restaurant building at 21 S. Second St., which is next to the Crowne Plaza hotel, and demolished it to make room for the new development. The purchase price was $150,000.
The new six-story commercial building will cater to professional office users and first-floor retail, Brad Jones, Harristown’s president and CEO, said last fall. He estimated then that the building project would cost $10 million to $12 million.
Jones was not immediately available for comment on the grant award or potential tenants for the site.
Harristown has been the most active developer in the city in recent years. Much of that work has involved apartment projects in downtown Harrisburg.
