Sorry, Harrisburg. Atlanta seen as best shot at landing Amazon’s new HQ

A new “super study” has mashed up nearly 20 predictions of where Amazon will put its second headquarters to come up with a new ranking of the top landing spots for the e-commerce giant.

Sperling’s BestPlaces, a website designed to help users find out where they should move, averaged rankings from 18 sources to create a top 64 ranking.

Atlanta tops the list as the likeliest destination for Amazon’s HQ2, according to Sperling’s. Boston was No. 2 followed by Chicago.

Harrisburg’s proposal didn’t make the 64-city cut.

However, Philadelphia is No. 4 and Pittsburgh is No. 11.

Amazon’s proposed $5 billion investment and the promise of 50,000 new jobs will likely impact housing and workforce across a large region, so Central Pennsylvania could still benefit if either Pennsylvania city is selected.

Regardless of where Amazon goes, the midstate could continue to benefit from a warehouse and distribution standpoint because of its robust highway system. Amazon already has multiple facilities in the Harrisburg area.

The Sperling’s ranking puts Baltimore at No. 21. Here’s the full spreadsheet.

The Wall Street Journal has pegged Dallas as the top city for HQ2.

Amazon has said it expects to make a final decision in 2018.
