Sold: York building housing former Italian restaurant

A downtown York building that housed a popular but now closed Italian restaurant has been sold.

Brad Carr purchased the 5,701 square-foot building at 243 W. Market St., which was home to the former former Sam & Tony’s Ristorante, said Maggie Noon, marketing director for LMS Commercial Real Estate. The sale of the property was completed May 31.

It was listed in March 2017 at $130,000 in March 2017, Noon said. LMS declined to provide the actual sale price.

Efforts to reach Carr were unsuccessful.

Rock Commercial Real Estate LLC and LMS Commercial Real Estate represented the seller, Tatesco LLC. Tatesco purchased the building in October 2014 and also owns the White Rose Bar & Grill.

People have wondered what would become of the venue as Sam & Tony’s was well received by the community, said Silas Chamberlin, CEO of Downtown Inc. The property’s new owner, he said, used to own a restaurant at 30 N. Beaver St., now home to Esaan Thai Restaurant.

He was unsure what Carr had in mind for the new space. But Chamberlin was also optimistic.

“He is someone who has owned a business in York before, so when I heard that it was him that bought it, it was reassuring,” Chamberlin said. “There was a lot of different people looking at that building for a lot of different uses and some of the uses wouldn’t have really activated the street … so the idea of getting it back to the potential of something that would bring people back in and out of the neighborhood, something of a service to the people living there is really good.”
