School supplies sought at Capital City Mall’s ‘Christmas in July’

Paula Wolf//July 7, 2021

Capital City Mall and the Salvation Army Harrisburg are holding a Christmas in July school supply donation drive to benefit local families served by the Salvation Army.

The mall and its retailers will be donating backpacks to be filled with the donated school supplies, which can be dropped off at the Capital City Mall food court or management office.

The Salvation Army also will be onsite collecting donations in the food court during the week of July 12, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 6-8 p.m.

Monetary donations to buy more supplies can be made at the Salvation Army’s Red Kettle station in the food court.

Supplies sought include notebooks, binders, pencils, erasers, etc. The Salvation Army expects to help more than 200 students.

Santa will also be making an appearance at the food court from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 17.

“The number of children we are able to help with back-to-school needs is dependent on the resources available,” Kathy Anderson-Martin, the Salvation Army’s director of resource development, said in a release. “Last year, we filled every available service appointment within just a few hours of opening the program. We anticipate similar needs this year as well, and appreciate the community’s support as we seek to help local kids in need.”

There will be Christmas light displays this month in the mall’s common area, presented by Christmas Décor of Harrisburg, which is sponsoring the Christmas in July school supply drive along with Renewal by Andersen of Central Pennsylvania.
