Rutter’s opens first store in Blair County

Location in Duncansville, near Altoona, is 68th for York County-based convenience-store chain

York County-based Rutter’s has gone westward to plant its flag, opening its first store in Blair County in a suburb of Altoona.

The 7,850-square-foot store, the 68th location for Rutter’s, opened Friday at 935 Plank Road in Duncansville.

It has 50 employees and is open year-round 24 hours a day, the company said in a news release.

The move into a new county and new market area comes after customers have requested for years that Rutter’s expand into the Altoona area, said Derek Gaskins, Rutter’s chief customer officer. A grand opening is planned on July 20 from 2 to 4 p.m.

Altoona is the home base for another convenience-store chain, Sheetz, which operates more than 500 locations in Pennsylvania and other states.

Rutter’s Holdings Inc., based in Manchester Township, is a privately-owned and family-managed group of companies that includes a dairy and beverage company and a real estate company along with the convenience-store chain.

Scott Hartman is its president and CEO.
