Roof collapses on Glen Rock apartment building, displacing dozens

Firefighters from Glen Rock responded to 100 School St. at 3:58 a.m. and received assistance from neighboring fire rescue teams in Yoe, Shrewsbury and Dover Township, said Glen Rock firefighter Harold Surratt.

When rescue personnel arrived, Surratt said that aside from a few people, nearly all of the residents of the three-story building had been evacuated. Although no injuries were reported, the roof did collapse into one apartment, he said.

While investigating, rescuers discovered that some of the outside walls buckled. They banned residents from re-entering the building.

In the meantime, the American Red Cross Central PA Region is assisting the 22 adults and 11 children who were displaced, said Kim Maiolo, Red Cross spokesperson.

Surratt said that the former school building is maintained by Glen Rock-based Southern Management Rentals LLC. Online assessment records show that the property is owned by Sunsar LLC.

Engineers are currently attempting to determine what caused the collapse.
