Rendell picks nominee to lead Insurance Department

Gov. Ed Rendell has nominated Joel Scott Ario to become the state’s next insurance commissioner.

Gov. Ed Rendell has nominated Joel Scott Ario to become the state’s next insurance commissioner.

Ario, 53, is the chief insurance regulator in Oregon. He earned a law degree from Harvard Law School in 1981. He also holds degrees from Harvard Divinity School and Saint Olaf College in Northfield, Minn.

If approved, Ario would succeed M. Diane Koken, who resigned early this year.
