Global real estate group CB Richard Ellis Group, Inc., which has an office in Harrisburg, plans to become carbon neutral by 2010.

The company intends to work with tenants and owners of more than 1.7 billion square feet of space to reduce energy use and emissions at buildings it manages, the company stated. CB Richard Ellis is working with the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) to introduce energy-saving measures at the properties. This is the first effort by a major commercial real estate services group to go carbon-neutral, according to the company. Energy use in buildings creates 40 percent of U.S. global-warming emissions, according to NRDC.
