A new senior housing complex is set to open next week in Harrisburg.

Upper Allen Township-based Monarch Development Group LLC partnered with Paxton Ministries in Harrisburg to develop Paxton Place senior housing at 1100 South 20th Street, which will officially open Dec. 4. The project was started last summer and was constructed on a vacant lot adjacent to the headquarters of Paxton Ministries.

The apartment complex consisting of 37 units includes amenities like a health suite for visits from UPMC Pinnacle staff, a coffee corner, medication mailboxes for prescription deliveries, a performance/media room, a fitness room and more. A large community room was built with a demonstration kitchen for cooking classes.

Individuals over the age of 62 who meet income qualifications are eligible for leasing 1- or 2-bedroom units.

Construction was completed earlier this month on the $8.6 million project. Financing came from Federal Low-Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTCs) from the Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency, along with a purchase of the LIHTCs by Mid Penn Bank, loans provided by Lancaster Housing Opportunity Partnership and the Dauphin County Housing Trust Fund and funds from Impact Harrisburg. Donations from Paxton Ministries, Market Square Presbyterian Church and the Pinnacle Foundation also contributed to financing the project.

Resident services and funding are being provided through partnerships with Messiah Lifeways, the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank, UPMC Pinnacle Health, Harrisburg YMCA and Messiah College.
