While his title is president and CEO, Burkentine said he’s proud to say his three sons, as vice presidents, share responsibility with him across disciplines — strategic planning, financial stewardship, partnership development and expansion opportunities. He also serves as a mentor and motivator for the organization, which he said is greatly rewarding.
Burkentine and his wife, Rajean, started the business in 1989, building one home at a time
What gives him the most satisfaction personally is that he and his wife built the company from the ground up and today they are blessed to work with their three sons and bring their grandkids on site.
Burkentine said it’s rewarding to build meaningful spaces where families make lifelong memories, and to employ great people in a culture of appreciation and inspiration.
He said his family instilled in him a belief that anything is possible with hard work, drive and a positive attitude. “Outside of family, I was lucky to have had mentors across various professions — business owners, bankers, contractors and tradespeople — who provided sound advice and believed in our vision,” Burkentine said.
He has several words of advice for young people entering the field today. “Don’t be afraid to take risks. Show up and do the work; success isn’t handed to you. No one does it alone — success is the result of a team effort.”
