DEP’s mission is to protect Pennsylvania’s air, land, and water from pollution and to provide for the health and safety of its citizens through a cleaner environment.

McDonnell has served as the Secretary of Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) since being nominated by Governor Tom Wolf in 2016. His career with DEP spans several decades, beginning in 1998. Prior to becoming Secretary, he served as the department’s director of policy.
