A partnership between UPMC and HACC, Central Pennsylvania’s Community College, will offer reimbursement for students enrolled in a medical assistant program.

Through the partnership, UPMC Scholars Program, HACC graduates who fulfill the UPMC work commitment will receive payments equivalent to the cost of the program in addition to their salaries.

“Medical assistants are important health care professionals who perform clinical and administrative duties,” said Lou Baverso, president, UPMC in Central Pa. “Becoming a medical assistant is a great way to enter into the health care field while opening opportunities to a number of career paths options.”

Students must complete at least two years of the work requirement at UPMC in Central Pa. facilities to qualify for the reimbursement. UPMC will offer a variety of full- and part-time position options to accommodate student schedules in combination with their studies.

Students can enroll in HACC’s new two semester Medical Assisting Certificate Program, available at both the college’s Gettysburg and Harrisburg campuses. Classes start Aug. 28, 2023, and the deadline to apply is Aug. 15. The first semester enrollment is limited to 48 students.

“Medical assistants play a key role in the healthcare field and we’re HACC proud to partner with UPMC to support them. The College’s program prepares our students to enter the workforce quickly while ensuring they have the tools they need to be successful in their career,” said HACC President and CEO John J. “Ski” Sygielski.
