Gunter-Smith has served as president of York College of Pennsylvania for over nine years. In her role as president, she reports to the college’s board of trustees. She has overall responsibility for all facets of the college including: facilities, academic and faculty affairs, student affairs and campus life, enrollment management, finances, and fund-raising. “I am fortunate to lead a team of talented individuals, experts in these areas, who work collaboratively to ensure that the college provides a high quality educational experience for our students,” she says.
Managing the institution during COVID and essentially picking up where we left off before COVID has been challenging. We continued to do what was essential, but had to ‘re-learn’ the importance of social interactions that do not occur via Zoom. These connections are important to our community. As a result, we have opted out of holding remote/hybrid meetings when possible to regain the sense of community that was lost during COVID,” Gunter-Smith says.
