OSHA investigating death of trucker hit by pipe in York County

OSHA is investigating the death of a truck driver who this week was struck on the head by a lead pipe, the York County Coroner’s Office reports.

Gary Hildebrand, 60, of Reidsville, N.C., died Tuesday. According to the coroner’s report, Hildebrand was employed by F. L. Moore & Sons, Inc., of Lynchburg, Va.

Hildebrand was working at Park Street and Carlisle Road in Dover Township when a pipe fell from his truck Monday and struck him. He was transported to York Hospital, where he died from his injuries about 1:10 p.m. Tuesday, the report states.

An autopsy performed Thursday at Lehigh Valley Hospital in Allentown determined his cause of death was blunt force trauma to the head and neck. The manner of death was ruled accidental.

Because Hildebrand’s death was work-related, OSHA is investigating, the coroner’s report indicates.
