NRG Energy partners with HU

NRG Energy Center Harrisburg has announced a geographic information systems project with Harrisburg University of Science and Technology.

NRG provides energy-efficient and environmentally sound heating for buildings in one square mile of the city’s central business district, including the capitol complex, according to its website.

The company will partner with university students, guided by geospatial technology faculty, to map its underground piping infrastructure, according to a news release.

The mapping will provide a more robust, visually oriented and data-rich system for analyzing and reporting from NRG’s steam system, the school said.

The company is a generous supporter of the university and looks for ways to provide educational experiences, the release stated.

The mapping project is planned for completion in November.

NRG Harrisburg is a subsidiary of NRG Thermal, a company of NRG Energy Inc., based in Princeton, N.J. The parent company’s shares are traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker symbol NRG.
