News and notes: Gingrich to speak

Harrisburg native Newt Gingrich will deliver the keynote address at the Manufacturers’ Association of South Central Pennsylvania’s 100th anniversary celebration.

Harrisburg native Newt Gingrich will deliver the keynote address at the Manufacturers’ Association of South Central Pennsylvania’s 100th anniversary celebration.

The buffet reception is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. April 18 in the Pullo Family Performing Arts Center at Penn State York. The program, “Celebrating the History, Leading the Evolution of Manufacturing,” is slated for 6:30 p.m.

The York-based manufacturers’ association has invited to the event Democratic Gov. Ed Rendell, U.S. Sen. Arlen Specter, R-Pa., and U.S. Rep. Todd Platts, R-York County.

Gingrich, a former speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, helped write the “Contract with America.” The U.S. Republican party released the document during the 1994 congressional-election campaign. The contract detailed what Republicans would do if they became the majority party in the House for the first time in 40 years. That happened.

Single tickets cost $100. Ticket and advertising packages are available, too. For details, call the association at 843-3891 or send e-mail to [email protected] by March 31.
