The Pennsylvania Department of Drug and Alcohol Programs is accepting grant applications from organizations offering employment or recovery support services to people with opioid use disorder.

Gov. Tom Wolf announced on Thursday that the state will contribute $5 million to the new grant program. The money is part of a $56.9 million grant the department received from the federal Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration to combat the state’s opioid crisis.

The new grant program is slated to give $3 million to groups offering employment support services such as resume writing, interviewing skills and job placement. The other $2 million will be distributed to recovery support groups with certified recover coaching programs, family mentoring and psychoeducational groups.

“A key component to an individual’s sustained recovery is the right services and supports – whether that’s help finding and retaining a job or help incorporating family into the recovery process,” said Wolf. “Providing access to support is vital to sustained recovery and a successful, fulfilling future for everyone involved in the journey through opioid use disorder.”

Applications are due on Feb. 21.
