More than 60 bunkers on the course are being re-shaped, lined and filled with white sand, Regents’ Glen said in a news release.
The renovations come on the heels of other improvements, including upgrades to the irrigation system, regrowth of under-nourished turf, new maintenance equipment and a new golf-cart fleet, the release said.
Regents’ Glen, in Spring Garden Township, re-opened a year ago after its purchase by Glen Rock native Rodney Krebs, owner of Springfield Contractors Inc., a heavy construction contractor in Glen Rock.
The course and club had closed in October 2015 due to financial difficulties under previous ownership.
Krebs, who with his family bought Regents’ Glen for $5 million, told the Business Journal last spring he did so both for business reasons and to preserve and improve an asset for his native York County.
Also getting a facelift at Regents’ Glen is The Box Hill Mansion, built in 1929 and surrounded by English gardens and fountains, and the RG Grill, which features casual fine dining with indoor and patio seating.
“I’m all in for the long haul, and have no plans to turn the golf course and club into housing,” Krebs said in the prepared statement.
The bunker renovation on the 18-hole, 6,339-yard golf course is being overseen by Billy Casper Signature Club Management, a private-club management firm that recently was chosen to operate Regents’ Glen.
The company oversees course and property maintenance, marketing and sales, staffing and training, merchandising, restaurant and banquet activities, special events, golf instruction and financial management for Regents’ Glen, it said in a separate news release.
“More than a million dollars in improvements and retaining Billy Casper Signature show my deep commitment to preserve Regents’ Glen for community enjoyment for generations to come,” Krebs also said.
“Regents’ Glen is one of my legacies, and I don’t intend to stop investing until we reach full membership,” he added.
